29th October '09  -  £50k to rip up residents carpets!

  ALMOST £50,000 of the local council money was spent laying latex flooring in two tower blocks in Stoke.

It comes after the 72 residents were asked to remove the carpets, door mats from the communal areas due to the potential fire hazards.

21st October '09  -  £3.8 Million for 150 year old carpet.

  The project was originally commissioned around 150 years ago to furnish the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad in Medina which has just sold for just under £4M in Doha.

The bidding started at £3m but the starting as there were not few enough original takers for the bidding.The carpet is called Pearl Carpet of Baroda, which was created using an over two million natural seed pearls.and has hundreds of precious stones, diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds.

21st October '09  -  Flooring recycling on the rise.

  Carpet Recycling UK was setup in March 2008 and
is backed by a group of UK manufacturers and suppliers to the retail sector. Its main mission is to get the waste away from local landfill’s.

Their target is to recycle 20,000 tonnes per year by mid 2009, we hope they achieve this.

21st October '09  -  Carpetright see 9% fall in profits.

  Carpetright publised results in January 2009 for its Interim Management Statement which showed group sales decreased by 9.0% for the 13 weeks to 31 January 2009.

Lord Harris, said: "The UK trading environment is more difficult than at any time in my working life”.

21st October '09  -  Allied Carpets is sold.

  The UK's second-largest flooring retailer Allied Carpets has been bought by offshore investment fund Sigma Capital Investments for an undisclosed amount.

The 218-store carpet retailer is likely to want to close some stores. In 2007, Allied Carpets made an operating loss of £6.8 million

  Allied Carpets has had talks with Hilco, the restructuring specialists over a potential sale.

In 2007, Allied Carpets made a loss of just under £7m, on their sales of £206.9m.
